Living in the Bible belt and being a Jew I have been asked many times to attend someones church and also to learn about Christianity. They, for the most are very curious about my beliefs. I have very little belief in God and none in religion. But it has brought to mind something I wrote a while back ;
Religion
From this place so disfigured by war
I look to the heavens for the god I abhor
Who would give of this green and quiet a place
Yet not teach us how for peace to embrace
To write is his book of death and despair
Of killing and torture and all of that fare
Of the falling of angels and losing of grace
Of arrows and spears and a great iron mace
We took this his book and read what we did
Of great seas of blood and truths that he hid
Of murder and death of children all lost
For him it is free for us it will cost
To live under his rule so cruel and so dark
To not see the light nor find his bookmark
To loose all of hope is what all have learned
And not to find love is what we have earned
It seems that we all must find our way
Without his good blessing or light of the day
To walk this path so narrow and long
No music, no laughter not even a song
Of triumph and loss, of pain and despair
And all this because he just does not care
To show us the light and bright burning sun
Instead all we have is a night never done
But we will go on and learn how to live
Learn how too love learn how to give
And walk through this time to reach a new day
And stand in his face and finally say
We need not of gods to show us the light
Of angels and devils, keep them from sight
No we are not children afraid of the dark
No this thing the universe is only our park
We will walk we want and go were we please
And never again to stand on our knees
No religion we need no church or no cult
No we are not children we are an adult
So to god and his minion, the Priest and the Pope
The Rabbi, the Imam and all of that scope
Goodbye as we walk alone in the night
For we are now God and we make the light

not my party anymore
Got a letter form the GOP asking for my support
Dear Mr. Steel
I received your request for money (donations) and your plea for me not to turn my back on the GOP. I was a republican for over 40 years; I campaigned for Goldwater, supported Nixon, Ford and Regan and the first Bush 88. I did not turn my back on you, you threw me out. You changed direction, you ran people (including GW Bush) who changed the direction of the GOP. I am the reason you are now a minority party on the verge of extinction. It is the GOP that has changed not the voters and blaming it on the “Liberal media (I have read the NYT since the 60’s, and watch both FOX and CNN but still supported the GOP) is nonsense and insults my intelligence. The GOP has lost its way and it is not a party with my values any more, The GOP for the last 10 years have spent my tax money like drunken sailors on leave, passed laws that have tried to strip me of my freedom (Internet gambling, Patriot act, etc. etc.) In 2000 the GOP was in control of both houses and the White House. What did you do, you increased the size of government, started wars in the Mideast for no reason (and tuned a surplus into the biggest deficit this country has ever had). So, now you want to be forgiven and want us back (and our money), well it’s not going to happen until you all get the message. It seems all the GOP can bitch about is Gay marriage and abortion, well wake up those issues mean nothing to most of us out here, we don’t care who marries who and as for Roe v Wade, it’s over, it’s been decided and you can’t get the genie back in the bottle. We face great problems, an ailing economy, disappearing manufacturing base, Islamic terror, soaring taxes and a future that looks like hell for our kids (interest rates will soar with all the government is borrowing and spending). So, what are your answers to these problems? You don’t have any, that’s the problem; all you talk about is family values (yours not mine), gay marriage and abortion. I hate to get personal but putting a black face at the head of the party, without any new ideas, was tried in the 60’s and 70’s (read “the spook that sat next to the door”) by corporate America (I was there) and it did not change anything until they change their structure and leadership, so Mr. Steel if you want folks like me to rejoin the party you had best show me some new ideas and some restraint when it comes to spending. The religious right at the present time is running the party and since my faith is my business and no one else’s and since I also believe in the separation of state and church I cannot in good conscience support the GOP anymore. The ball is in your hands, if you want my support and money, you have to earn it. So, it’s time to stop trying to frighten me and start showing me that you have my interests in mind and that you will change, and go back to what you were before the religious right took over.

I keep receiving Emails about how the deniers of the holocaust are gaining in strength and got one from Norma (see Norma’s ark), she asked what will happen when passing of time to the memory of what really did happen my answer is follows:
As time passes it will grow dim as all of history does, who remembers the Armenians, as for a lesson for the world, well, let’s see, since 1945, the Sudan, Serbia, Bosnia, Croatia, famine in Africa, two wars in Asia, and 5 in the mid east, not the Holocaust and its memory will fade with time and be gone completely when some bigger insanity takes it place, like nuclear war or total economic collapse..All the emails and monuments will become of a different age, Does anyone now remember, armistices day, d-day, hell there is a big hole in NY where two buildings once stood, No one is rushing out to find the guy who did it to this day, No 50 years from now no one will even care, Then maybe the Jews will stop playing the victim. It is time to move on, the State of Israel has powerful military and economic engines it’s time to tell the Palestinians what the terms of surrender are and stop worrying about the what the rest of the world feels, feelings mean nothing. Take the imitative with Iran, hurt them badly and tell the world we will not ever again go gently into that dark night, Power is the only thing they will respect or have ever respected. Most stood by during the holocaust, as for China, Russia, India, and Europe, all they care is that the oil keeps flowing. Israel can do that with its air power, the rest of the Arab governments will whine and cry but all they care about is staying in power and Iran, Hezbollah, Hamas are more of a threat to them than Israel (it will also send a message to the rest of the Jew haters, that Israel will not take lightly any threat to its existence nor wait for the rest of the world to act. The world did not react in 1938 and will not ever act except for its own self interest. The Arab street will go bananas, and for a while we will need to tighten security around the world but in the end they will forget why they hate all outsiders and go back to their chest beating and demonstrating and telling the world the they will kill everyone who is not an Arab or Muslim or whatever, and never again will a Jew be looked on as someone to victimize.
